When it comes to choosing the colour of a new car, results from a recent poll has shown that blue is the most popular amongst motorists, however, many of them end up with their second choice, the results revealed. With the costs of running a car, including fuel prices and motor insurance, not all new buyers can be so selective about their preferred colour.
In the vote for Irish motorists favourite colour, blue came out on top, ahead of silver in second place, black in third with red finishing in fourth position. It was also revealed that the most popular colour of car already owned by motorists, instead of wished for, was silver, followed by blue then black and finally red.
Amongst drivers in the 18 – 34-year-old age group, black was particularly fashionable, yet only around half of this number was actually an owner of a black car. The findings made for results that are even more peculiar as only 13 per cent of motorists in this age group would choose silver as their favourite colour vehicle, yet 22 per cent actually had one.
Silver came out as the top colour with those who were aged 55 years old or more and was voted the easiest to clean, whilst gold, yellow, green and white were considered to be the least dirt-resistant colour.
The easiest colour motor to sell also went to silver, closely followed by black.
One car industry expert said, “Brighter-coloured cars, which have been popular in the past when the economy was more buoyant, seem to have slipped way down the league. The results show a discrepancy between desired colour of choice and actual colour of car as often the owner may not have a choice.”
